Using Telepsychiatry to deliver mental health care during the COVID-19 pandemic

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak threatens to have long-term consequences on the mental health of vulnerable persons. Besides direct effects of viral infection, mental issues may emerge in response to the huge social impact of the pandemic, in terms of social isolation, trauma and grief, uncertainty and misinformation. Notwithstandig this, the ability to provide usual mental health care has been disrupted by the pandemic, following lockdown measures and block on many outpatient services. Telepsychiatry (i.e., providing mental health care remotely, using telecommunications such as telephone or video conferencing tools) may help to support patients during these difficult times. This survey explores the experience of mental health professionals with telepsychiatry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
